Barnes Custom Window Treatments was founded by James (Barney) and Kathy Barnes in 1960. Because of the popularity and demand in the area they decided to produce the highest of quality drapes from home.
This is where they really decided to hone their craft, quickly becoming the go-to for all of the latest window fashion trends. Understanding that there was only so much they could do in their home they
knew they had to open up a new shop.
Barnes Custom Window Treatments quickly became synonymous with Main Street, Thomaston, cornering themselves by the Post Office and the general store. They owned and operated that location until 2010.
Selling draperies, roller shades, and wall paper.
Their son, Jim, took a serious interest in the business and realized there was a market for awnings. It wasn’t long before Barnes Awnings lined the main streets of local businesses
in Rockland, Camden, Rockport, and Damariscotta.
Jim felt it was important to bring new products in, while still keeping the Barnes' tradition by still selling drapes, shades, and blinds.
Located on Rt. 90, Barnes Custom Window Treatments remains Mid-coast's destination for all your window treatment needs. Now having multiple employees and acquiring the 3rd generation of their family,
has allowed for customer service to be the greatest service they can offer. As Jim says "Not many companies can sell and maintain their products for 3 generations and over 60 years, but this one can".
